During the week leading up to the Passover festival in Jerusalem, many people had come to Jerusalem from different places to celebrate this major Feast, a key Jewish holiday that marks the Israelites’ escape from Egypt. The city’s population grew as pilgrims prepared for the festival, buying animals for sacrifice, and participating in rituals.
In the upper room, Jesus was beginning to share with those present, that one of them would betray him. Judas Iscariot would be identified as the betrayer. During Jesus teaching, Judas would leave to carry out his act of treachery.
